About dance competitions in St. Louis

St. Louis is a friendly, budget-conscious pick for a competition trip, with a walkable riverfront, a compact set of marquee attractions, and a genuinely rare perk: several of its best family destinations are free to enter. Events often land at convention hotels and performing arts spaces both downtown and in suburbs like Chesterfield, so double-check which venue your dancer is assigned to when you book. Summers here run hot and humid, so lean on indoor plans and hydration during those dates.

What makes the city easy on families is how much sits close together in and around Forest Park, one of the largest urban parks in the country. You can pair a morning session with an afternoon at a free zoo or science center without a long drive or a big spend, which keeps a multi-day trip manageable.

Competitions are commonly held at downtown convention hotels near the Gateway Arch and at performing arts venues in suburbs like Chesterfield; fly into St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL), about 20-30 minutes out, with a car the simplest way to reach both city and suburban venues.
