Frequently asked questions

What's the difference between a summer dance camp and a summer dance intensive?

The terms are used interchangeably in the dance world. 'Summer dance camp' tends to skew toward younger or recreational dancers and overnight residential programs; 'summer dance intensive' tends to skew toward pre-professional and competitive training. The programs themselves overlap heavily — every camp is some kind of intensive, and many intensives also call themselves camps. Browse them all here.

Are there overnight (residential) summer dance camps?

Yes — we track 49 residential summer dance programs across the US and Canada with on-campus or hotel housing. 405 programs run as day camps without housing.

Can I find summer dance camps for a specific style — ballet, contemporary, hip-hop, musical theater?

Yes. Use the style filter on /explore, or jump to a dedicated style page: /intensives/ballet, /intensives/contemporary, /intensives/musical-theater. Most camps cover multiple styles; the larger universities and conservatories typically run separate ballet and contemporary tracks.

How much do summer dance camps cost?

Tuition ranges widely — from free community programs (NOBA in New Orleans, AileyCamp at several cities, Governor's Schools) through $300-1,500 week-long studio programs, to $3,000-6,000 for residential pre-professional intensives at universities and major companies like ABT, Joffrey, and Ballet West.
