The Canadian National Dance Championships (CNDC) operates as Canada's only dance competition that qualifies dancers to represent the country at the International Dance Organization (IDO) World Championships. The company holds five competitions annually across Canada, offering dancers the opportunity to compete in 14 style categories organized into three competitive levels: Novice, Competitive, and Advanced Competitive. As an IDO-affiliated organization, CNDC follows international standards and provides a pathway for Canadian dancers to compete on the world stage at what is often referred to as the "Olympics" of dance. CNDC competitions feature a comprehensive awards system designed to recognize achievement at all levels. The company awards cash prizes for high scores in various categories, with Overall Discipline High Score winners in each age division receiving cash awards, and daily high scorers earning trophies plus $50. Every participant receives a custom CNDC medal, ensuring all dancers are recognized for their participation. The competition also offers studio-level recognition through the Maple Leaf Award, which provides substantial cash prizes ($1,000, $800, and $600) to the top three studios based on their Advanced Competitive Group scores. Judging is conducted by non-local adjudicators with diverse, multi-disciplined dance backgrounds, including studio owners, teachers, and dance professionals from across Canada and the United States, ensuring fair and professional evaluation across eight age divisions ranging from 6 & Under through Adult.
