Masquerade Dance operates as a national dance competition company currently in its 22nd season, hosting 11 regional events across the country. The company blends the excitement of Mardi Gras and New Orleans spirit with competitive dance, adopting the motto "Laissez les bon temps roulez" (Let the good times roll). Dancers compete for scores ranging from Bronze (239 and below) through Unmasked Elite (291-300), with Gold level scores (260 points) or higher qualifying for advancement to nationals. Each competition features a three-judge panel that evaluates performances across multiple dance styles and age divisions. The company offers multiple pathways for recognition beyond standard scoring, including the Parade of Stars program for outstanding dancers who demonstrate impressive performance quality and attention to detail. These selected dancers are featured on the company's website and invited to perform in opening numbers at nationals events. Additional special awards include the Steven Boyd Memorial Award (one per regional event), Best in Show for the highest score per age category, and Miss Masquerade titles crowned in each age division. Masquerade also operates the Masquerade Mission, a non-profit initiative that raises funds through improv contests and other activities, and offers the UnMasked convention program as an audition-intensive experience for studios nationwide.
