Winter Dance Intensives
Every winter dance intensive and holiday workshop we have catalogued for 2026-27 — 104 programmes in 57 cities across 29 states and provinces, from 78 studios, ballet schools, conservatories and companies. Christmas and New Year workshops, January intensives, and February break programmes — with dates, ages, cost and housing.
A winter dance intensive is concentrated training that fits inside a school break — most often the week between Christmas and New Year, or the January and February breaks. Where a summer intensive runs one to six weeks and frequently requires an audition, a winter programme is typically two to five days with open or lightly screened enrolment.
That makes winter the most accessible season to try a new school, and the hardest to plan for: the window is short, and a programme running in late December often closes registration in November. Dancers use the season three ways — to hold technique over a long holiday, to sharpen material before competition season, and to audition-prep for the summer intensives whose places are decided in the spring.

Frequently asked questions
- When do winter dance intensives run?
- Most run in the gap between Christmas and New Year, with a second cluster over the January and February school breaks. Of the 104 winter 2026-27 programmes we track, 72 begin in December 2026, 22 in January 2027 and 10 in February 2027. Most last two to five days — short enough to fit inside a school holiday.
- How is a winter intensive different from a summer intensive?
- Length and purpose. A summer intensive typically runs one to six weeks and is often an audition-based pre-professional programme. A winter intensive is usually two to five days over a school break, with open or lightly screened enrolment, and is used to hold technique over the holidays, prepare for competition season, or audition-prep for the summer programmes that decide places in the spring.
- Do winter intensives offer housing?
- Almost none. Winter programmes are short — typically two to five days over a school break — so they are run as day programmes and students attend locally.
- Is it too late to register for a winter intensive?
- Often not, but winter has the tightest timeline of any season: a programme running between Christmas and New Year frequently closes registration in late November or early December, and several of the strongest ones cap numbers rather than dates. Every listing links straight to the provider's own page — check there before assuming a programme is full.
Winter registration windows close early and often without notice. Always verify dates, ages, cost and housing directly with the programme before registering or paying any fees.
