Mark of Excellence National Talent Competition operates as a national dance competition company based in Dallas, Texas. The company hosts regional competitions across the United States in cities including Baton Rouge, Columbus, Daytona Beach, Chattanooga, Austin, Atlanta, Long Island, Des Moines, Oklahoma City, St. Louis, Dallas/Fort Worth, Minneapolis, and Anaheim. Mark of Excellence holds its Grand National Finals annually in Destin/Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The competition uses a three-judge panel scoring system with a total possible score of 300 points (100 points per judge). Judging criteria includes Technique (40 points), Execution (30 points), Showmanship (20 points), Choreography (5 points), and Costume (5 points). Awards are given across multiple levels: Xtreme Platinum (288-300 points), Platinum (280-287.9), High Gold (272-279.9), and Gold (267-271.9). Special recognition awards include Title Awards, Solo Master, Solo Costume, Photogenic, Choreography, Judges Choice, Group Costume, and Sportsmanship. The company offers three competitive divisions: Beginner/Mark of the Future, Intermediate, and Advanced, with age categories ranging from Mini through Adult. Participants must be affiliated with an active dance studio and register a minimum of five entries per competition.
