Hip Hop International operates as a unique crew-based hip hop dance competition organization, founded in 2002 and headquartered in Los Angeles. Unlike traditional studio dance competitions, HHI focuses exclusively on street dance and hip hop culture, organizing competitions for dance crews of 5-8 members (regular crews) or 15-40 members (MegaCrew division). The organization operates on an international scale with affiliates in over 55 countries worldwide, hosting three major annual events: the USA Hip Hop Dance Championship, the World Hip Hop Dance Championship, and World Battles featuring individual competitions in popping, locking, breaking, whacking, and all styles. HHI's competition format features a comprehensive 10-point scoring system with separate panels of artistic and technical judges. Artistic judges evaluate Hip Hop Dance Content, Performance, Creativity, Staging, Showmanship, Street Presence, and Variety of Styles, while technical judges focus on Musicality, Synchronization, Execution, and Difficulty. The organization maintains judging standards through workshops conducted worldwide and draws upon dance originators, respected street dancers, dance professionals, and choreographers to serve as judges. Age divisions include Junior, Varsity, Adult, MiniCrew, and MegaCrew categories. Beyond competitions, HHI offers World Moves Dance Workshops taught by sought-after presenters and choreographers, providing educational opportunities for dancers seeking to develop their street dance skills within the authentic hip hop culture framework that the organization works to preserve and promote.
