About the Program

UC Berkeley's Dance and Performance Studies program engages performance on physical, intellectual, and aesthetic levels. The practical focus is on the performance and choreography of contemporary dance and dance theater, with equal emphasis on theory, history, culture, and literature. The rigorous training targets students interested in learning about dance and performance from multiple perspectives. Faculty are known nationally and internationally for scholarly research and creative work. Many graduates join professional dance companies; others pursue graduate study or careers in universities, non-profits, health care, education, and business.
