Sweet Briar College

About the Program

For more than 40 years, the Sweet Briar College dance program has striven to promote active learning, develop the creative, collaborative and critical skills essential for life and livelihood while preparing students majoring in performing arts and dance for careers in related fields. The program is rooted in contemporary techniques, improvisation, and collaboration, and offers a Performing Arts B.A. with a Dance Track (Performance and Teaching options) as well as a dance minor. Its capstone dance project lets students choreograph, produce, and perform a full-length concert for the community.

Coursework

Coursework spans technique, choreography, dance history and criticism, somatic and kinesiological science, improvisation, dance production, and dance administration and business. A dance teacher licensure track toward teaching licensure in dance is available.
