About the Program
Swarthmore's Dance Department brings together students to perform a global repertoire of dance styles while engaging in critical thinking and writing. The study of Dance as a liberal art requires an integrated approach to theory, history, and performance, with experience in all three areas being essential to its understanding as an artistic and intellectual pursuit. Dance is an open program at Swarthmore, with no auditions for classes, and welcomes all students regardless of prior formal training. The BA major and minor offer three areas of focus: Choreography, Dance Studies, and Individually Created (Special Major).
