Dance at the State University of New York at Fredonia is housed in the Department of Theatre & Dance (College of Liberal Arts and Sciences) in Fredonia, NY. The department offers a pre-professional BFA in Dance emphasizing Contemporary and Jazz movement with supplementary training in street styles, somatic forms, tap and ballet; a liberal-arts-based BS in Dance combining dance science, wellness, movement, and choreography; and a Dance Minor. The BFA requires an audition; the BS and Minor do not.

Coursework

BFA in Dance is 95 credit hours, focused primarily in Contemporary and Jazz technique with supplementary Ballet, Tap, and Yoga. Coursework organized into Core Technique, Choreography Sequence, Wellness Sequence (kinesiology, dance science), and Theoretical Sequence (dance history). Special-topics courses include Musical Theatre Dance, Hip-Hop, and Global Dance Forms; also Yoga: Physicality & Philosophy and somatic practices. BFA requires minimum 3.0 GPA in major and grade of C or better in all dance technique/theory courses. The BS in Dance is designed for careers in physical therapy, exercise science, education, and arts management.

Department mainstage season includes the Fredonia Dance Ensemble; New Works Series includes dance senior projects and chamber concerts. Housed in the Rockefeller Arts Center (Walter Gloor Mainstage).
