About the Program

Roger Williams University in Bristol, RI offers a Bachelor of Arts in Dance/Performance Studies that combines professional dance training within a framework of the liberal arts, directed toward perfecting the professional abilities of its students within the structure of an academic program. The curriculum offers technique in Ballet, Contemporary, Modern, Mime, Movement Theatre, and Ethnic and Social forms, along with theory courses in Choreography, Dance History, Pedagogy, Movement Analysis, Kinesiology, and Performance Techniques. Students may pair the major with a second major/minor (e.g., Psychology for dance/movement therapy, Secondary Ed for teaching certification, Biology for OT/PT, Public Relations, or Arts Management). The program also offers a Dance Minor and a Core Dance Minor.

Performance Opportunities

Students perform through the Dance Theatre Company (repertory company) and in recurring productions including the Fall Concert, the Junior/Senior Dance Show, and the Spring Concert. The program features guest artist residencies and live accompaniment for technique classes in collaboration with a staff composer.

Talent Scholarship consideration requires a video audition (a 2-3 minute training/performance video plus a 2-3 minute solo).
