About the Program
The Bachelor of Arts in Dance offers a broad technical, artistic, and academic curriculum designed to provide a well-rounded and comprehensive experience in technique, composition, pedagogy, performance, and interdisciplinary study. Housed in the Department of Kinesiology within the College of Health, Education and Social Transformation at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, the program integrates ballet, modern, hip-hop, dance for musical theatre, and world dance with choreography, dance history, pedagogy, and repertory.

Coursework
Core curriculum includes Ballet (I-III), Modern Dance (I-III), Hip-Hop (I-II), Dance for Musical Theatre, World Dance, Dance Improvisation, Music for Dancers, Dance Composition I & II, Dance Pedagogy, Dance History, Dance Repertory (min. 4 enrollments), Somatics and Anatomy of Movement, and a Senior Project. BA requires a minimum of 120 credits (school lists 120-127) with 48 credits at 3000-level or above; minimum 2.5 GPA. Dance Minor requires minimum 18 credits with at least 9 upper-division hours. Students audition for placement before admission.
Facilities
Rentfrow Hall Studio Theater is used for dance performances and classes.
Performance Opportunities
Dance majors must audition for at least one performance opportunity each year. Performances take place in the Rentfrow Hall Studio Theater and include productions such as Fusion de Frontera and The Collection Showcase; sample ensemble courses include Contemporary Dance Ensemble and Principles of Choreography.
