About the Program

As part of Meredith's dance program, you will be part of a collaborative environment for conducting artistic scholarship, developing technical, creative, and critical skills within a liberal arts curriculum, and exploring personal expression. The Dance & Theatre Department at this women's college in Raleigh, NC offers a BA in Dance with concentrations in K-12 Licensure and Private Studio Teaching, a Dance Minor, and a Professional Performance Certificate, with training in ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, tap, and improvisation.

Coursework

Curriculum includes improvisation and lecture courses such as Dance History, in addition to technique classes in ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, and tap. BA is 47 credit hours; BA with K-12 Licensure is 84 credit hours; BA with Private Studio Teaching Concentration is 63 credit hours.

Facilities

Performance and rehearsal spaces include Jones Auditorium, the Studio Theatre, and Weatherspoon Gym.

Performance Opportunities

Multiple performance companies and student groups open to majors and non-majors: Meredith Dance Theatre (MDT), Meredith Jazz and Tap Company (MJTCo), Meredith Angels Dance Team (MADT), Meredith College Dance Crew (MCDC), DanceWorks, F.I.R.E. (Fierce International Rhythmic Experience), Meredith Improv, and Meredith Dance Association (MDA). Students perform and choreograph starting freshman year, study with guest artists, and participate annually in the American College Dance Association with master classes and adjudicated work.
