About the Program

Madonna University, a private Catholic university in Livonia, Michigan, offers a Bachelor of Arts in Dance through its Department of Art, Music, and Dance. The professionally oriented program emphasizes broad performance experience and prepares students for careers as dancers, teachers, or multi-skilled professionals. All incoming dance majors are designated Bachelor of Arts/Dance degree candidates; after completing 14 semester hours of dance requirements, students may petition to change to the Dance Performance major. Acceptance is based on a formal dance audition, with proficiency at the intermediate level in ballet, modern, or jazz required for major/minor status. All majors and minors are members of the MUse Dance Ensemble, which performs on and off campus and in two full-scale proscenium dance concerts each academic year.

Coursework

Program requires approximately 45 semester hours in dance technique plus 11 semester hours in support courses. Dance majors must maintain a cumulative 2.75 GPA in all dance technique and related required courses. Acceptance based on formal dance audition held roughly four times per academic year; intermediate-level proficiency in ballet, modern, or jazz required.

Performance Opportunities

All majors and minors are members of the MUse Dance Ensemble, which performs informally on campus, off-campus in lecture demonstrations, and in two full-scale proscenium dance concerts per academic year.
