About the Program
Robert Joffrey and Gerald Arpino founded the Joffrey Ballet School in 1953. The school offers year-round training for pre-professional artists in a range of dance disciplines. Students can choose between Ballet or Jazz & Contemporary tracks, with the school emphasizing versatility across styles rather than a single-discipline focus. Beyond the year-round pre-professional Trainee Program, the school runs Open Classes (walk-in for ages 16+), summer intensives across the US and internationally, and hosts the Joffrey Concert Group — a resident pre-professional performing ensemble founded 1981 by Robert Joffrey and currently led by Artistic Director Bradley Shelver.
