About the Program

The B.F.A. in Dance at Indiana University Bloomington, offered through the Department of Theatre, Drama, and Contemporary Dance, combines artistic integrity and disciplined dance training with a strong academic and theoretical core, aiming to develop wholly integrated artists and successful dance professionals. Grounded in modern and contemporary dance, the curriculum also includes ballet, world dance forms, and electives in musical theatre, tap, and jazz. The degree encompasses dance technique, repertory, improvisation, composition, pedagogy, history, music, production, movement analysis, injury prevention, and Pilates certification. A minor in Dance is also available.

Performance Opportunities

All students perform with Indiana University Contemporary Dance Theatre in faculty and guest-artist concerts and student works; seniors produce their own concert each fall. Additional performance opportunities exist with IU Opera, Musical Theatre, the African American Dance Company, and local ensembles.
