About the Program
Grand Valley State University's dance program, housed in the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance, offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees in Dance. The program provides students extensive training to develop and refine techniques in various idioms of dance, and encourages collaboration across disciplines, offering opportunities to explore dance through the study of technique, history, theory, technology, choreography, pedagogy, anatomy and physiology, and production. Participation in the dance program is by audition only.

Coursework
Dance core (~45 credits) includes Dance Conditioning, Choreography and Improvisation, two Dance History courses, Dance Costuming, Screendance, Dance Pedagogy, and a Senior Project. Technique requirement (~14 credits) uses a "6-4-4" pool distributed across ballet, modern, and jazz. B.A. requires third-semester foreign-language proficiency (47-59 credits total); B.S. requires STA 215 Introductory Applied Statistics plus quantitative/research courses (56 credits total). Mandatory mid-program review at end of sophomore year. Both degrees are Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science tracks of the same Dance major.
