About the Program
The Dance major provides a valuable set of skills in the performing arts and humanities. Housed in the Department of Humanities at Coppin State University in Baltimore, the Bachelor of Science in Dance maintains an important focus on African, African American, and Caribbean forms, as well as choreographic practices, production, dance studies, and somatics. Its mission is to cultivate a dynamic and inclusive dance education that empowers students through rigorous training in dance performance, technology, and production, centering the cultural and historical significance of dance, especially within the African diaspora.

Coursework
Broad range of movement courses including African Dance, Caribbean Dance, ballet, jazz, hip hop, yoga, somatic, and contemporary dance. Curriculum comprises General Education Requirements, required theory courses (12 credits), core movement technique courses (33 credits), dance performance courses (9 credits), and professional development/internship courses (6 credits); 120 total credits. Focus on African, African American, and Caribbean forms plus choreographic practices, production, and dance studies. No audition required; incoming students submit a Dance Placement Video.
