About the Program
The College of Charleston Dance program, housed in the Department of Theatre and Dance at the Cato Center for the Arts, allows students to combine the study of dance technique in three disciplines — ballet, modern, and jazz — while grounding their work in the breadth of dance as a field. Students may pursue a B.A. in Dance in general dance studies, or a B.A. with a Performance/Choreography concentration (requires audition or demonstrated technical proficiency), as well as a Dance minor.

Coursework
Coursework includes Classical Ballet Technique I-III, Modern Dance Technique I-III, Jazz Dance Technique, History of Western Dance, Dance Improvisation and Choreography, Applied Kinesiology for Dance, and Dance Choreography II. General B.A. is 37+ credit hours; Performance/Choreography concentration is 47+ credit hours.

Performance Opportunities
Students perform during departmental productions (CofC Stages season includes two dance concerts with faculty and guest artists) and at regional/state conferences including the American College Dance Association (ACDA), South Carolina Dance Association, and SCAPHERD.
