About the Program

Carleton College offers a special major in Dance through its Department of Theater and Dance, aiming to increase understanding of the art of dance as a contribution to a liberal arts education while connecting theory with embodied learning. The program develops body knowledge, somatic research, and cultural awareness of movement practices, examining dance through social justice and global perspectives. Classes in modern dance technique and ballet are offered at multiple levels each term, supplemented by jazz, moving anatomy, contact improvisation, and West African dance. A Dance minor is also available.
